El Güero Canelo coming to Valley

By Jess Harter Friday, January 14, 2011

Sonoran hot dog alert! Tucson favorite El Güero Canelo plans to open three Valley locations “as soon as possible,” according to owner Daniel Contreras.

El Güero Canelo is well-known for its Sonoran hot dogs, which are wrapped in bacon and topped with beans, tomatoes, onions, mustard, mayo and jalapeños, all stuffed in a Mexican bolillo roll.

The restaurant recently was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Food Wars,” where it competed against another Tucson fave, BK Carne Asada & Hot Dogs, for best Sonoran hot dog.

El Güero Canelo has two Tucson locations and plans to open a third May 1. Contreras says the first Phoenix location should open later this year at a location to be determined.
