The bad news: Bill Johnson’s Big Apple, one of the Valley’s oldest restaurants, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The good news: Its five locations, including an East Valley one in Mesa, are not expected to close.

CEO Sherry Cameron tells the Phoenix Biz Journal that Chapter 11 will allow the company to restructure its debt.

Cameron’s grandfather, Bill Johnson, founded the original Phoenix restaurant in 1956.
