MXSW turns pro: East Valley-focused dining website begins selling ads

By Jess Harter Friday, October 21, 2011

After months of preserving its amateur status, Mouth by Southwest is finally going pro. Regular readers may have noticed the square ad that appeared Thursday in the right-hand column of this website. Talk of the Town Asian Diner officially becomes our first advertiser. It’ll be joined by several others in the next few days.

Why have we taken this step? Because we love covering the East Valley food and drink scene. We feel it’s up and coming, but it’s undercovered by the media and, thus, under-appreciated. We hope to help change that. We feel it’s especially important during these uncertain economic times when worthwhile restaurants are struggling to get their word out.

To do this, we obviously need to make some money. We need to pay our mortgage, our utility bills and, of course, our restaurant and bar tabs. So we’re turning MXSW into a fulltime business. It won’t be easy. We think it’s worth trying, though. So far, the response has been phenomenal.

Good luck. Even though we live in N. Phoenix, we don’t hesitate to drive to the EV for food. Joe’s Real BBQ is our benchmark. Love hearing about the food scene down there.
