Dippin’ Dots files for bankruptcy, but store closures not expected

By Jess Harter Friday, November 4, 2011

Dippin’ Dots – the self-proclaimed “Ice Cream of the Future” – has filed for bankruptcy protection, but the move is not expected to result in the closure of any stores, according to a company official.

The Kentucky-based company has nearly 2,000 franchises nationwide, including 11 in the East Valley.

Dippin’ Dots, beads of ice cream cryogenically frozen at 40 degrees below zero, were invented in 1988 by Curt Jones, a microbiology student at Southern Illinois University.
