10 more East Valley places to go on St. Patrick’s Day

By Jess Harter Friday, March 16, 2012

Earlier this week, I spotlighted a dozen of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the East Valley on Saturday. There are, of course, many other eateries offering specials. Here are 10 more to consider:

• The Hungry Monk: The corned beef has been sitting in pickled brine for a week already at this Chandler restaurant. Food specials will include corned beef sliders (2 for $5), corned beef dinners with cabbage and red potatoes ($10.50), and Guinness beef stew ($3-$6), Beside Left Handed Irish Monks (their version of Car Bombs, $7), drink specials will include $5 Guinness pints, $5 Jameson shots, and $5 Dublin maragaritas.

BLD Chandler• BLD: The all-day Chandler eatery starts the day with corned beef hash with eggs and potatoes (part of a special St. Patrick’s Day menu all weekend), then kicks off happy hour at noon. Drink specials include $2 Jameson shots and $2 green beers. (BLD’s corned beef and potatoes from Christmas Eve is pictured at left.)

• Four Peaks Brewing: Expect a long line when doors open at 7 a.m. for Irish breakfast at the Tempe brew pub, which promises to have 12,000 pounds of corned beef and 450 pounds of shepherd’s pie ready. Best of all, it also promises to play “The Unicorn Song” by The Irish Rovers more than 40 times throughout the day.

• Whole Foods Chandler: The market is hosting a Local Lily street fair with food trucks including Old World Brewery and Sweet Republic, live music, and kids activities. The fest’s menu also will feature corned beef sliders and $1-$2 smoothies.

• Chompies: Besides green bagels, cupcakes and cookies, the Tempe and Chandler locations are doing their annual Corned Beef, Boiled Potatoes, Cabbage and Irish Soda Bread Feast ($14.49 for single serving or $18.95 for all you can eat).

Essence Bakery Cafe Tempe AZ• Essence Bakery Cafe: The Tempe bakery is selling small boxes of St. Patrick’s Day-themed treats (pictured at right).

• Flanny’s: The Tempe restaurant & bar is teaming up with Sonoran Brewing and Crispin Cider for a pair of Irish beer cocktails – Inebriated Velvet and White Chocolate Velvet – starting at 5 p.m. The Drive will perform.

• Los Dos Molinos: Get a shot of green tequila for $3 at this Mexican restaurant in Mesa. Also, buy one green beer and get one half-off all day.

• Flancer’s: Reubens will be the sandwich special, Guinness Irish stew the soup special, and Guinness the beer special all day at the Gilbert and Mesa locations.

• Wedge & Bottle: The Ahwatukee cheese shop is offering an Irish cheese plate for $12 and 15% off all beers all day.
