Boulder Beer firkins will be subject of Whole Foods’ Friday beer class

If you’ve ever delved into the world of craft beer, you’ve probably encountered the term “firkin.” It’s an Old English measurement equivalent to a quarter of a barrel – or, in layman’s terms, 72 pints.

It’s the most common size for cask beers, those so-called “real ales” that are unfiltered, unpasteurized and served without added carbonation.

At 7 p.m. Friday, the weekly beer class at Whole Foods Chandler will feature five firkins from Boulder Beer, Colorado’s first microbrewery.

The beers:

  • Double Dry Hopped Hoopla Pale
  • Dry Hopped Simtra Mojo IPA
  • Hazed & Infused with heather tips
  • Planet Porter with cocoa nibs
  • A “surprise” beer

The informal tasting, which costs just $5, is open to anyone 21 or older.
