Arizona Republic dining critic Howard Seftel launches food & restaurant blog on AZ Central

By Jess Harter Tuesday, February 12, 2013

After a hiatus of nearly five years, Howard Seftel is blogging again. The Arizona Republic’s venerable dining critic is one of several “insiders” authoring a flurry of new blogs on AZ Central.

The Republic has a spotty history with blogging. The paper launched blogs by Seftel and other staff writers several years ago, but soon abandoned many of them, preferring to display individual stories.

Over the past year, though, the Republic seems to have put a renewed emphasis on staff blogs – despite a website architecture that makes it difficult to display the type of continuos, personality-driven blogs most people are familiar with.

Given the relative dearth of dining blogs in the Valley, it’s great to see the Arizona’s most authoritative dining critic back at it.

Seftel tells me he’s aiming to blog five days a week, but says that won’t always be practicable. He still will have the same duties and workload for the printed newspaper.

Occasionally his blog will refer to one of his restaurant reviews, he says. Otherwise, it will focus on food and restaurant news and observations.

You can find Seftel’s blog here. I hope he figures out how to add some photos.
