Closed: Classic Italian Pizza in Tempe

By Jess Harter Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Classic Italian Pizza, the award-winning pizzeria in south Tempe, has closed, but owner Azhar Began hopes to re-open in a new location.

Began posted an update on Facebook:

I have to admit that past few weeks have been really tough. Closing our old location and still looking for a better, new home for our restaurant hasn’t been an easy task. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on our progress and hopefully soon announce our new address. I miss seeing you guys and I can’t wait to fire up that oven once again.

The cozy restaurant – just 12 tables and a small bar – featured 12-inch pies cooked by Began in a wood-burning oven.

It had survived (even thrived) since the ’90s despite its almost-hidden location in the aging Lake Country Village shopping center on Baseline.
