Valley home brewers gather at Taste of Tops to remember David Conz

By Jess Harter Monday, April 15, 2013

A large contingent of Valley home brewers joined ASU professors and others at Taste of Tops in Tempe last night to remember David Conz, who passed away Friday.

Conz was a sociology professor at ASU, but perhaps was best-known simply as “Dr. Dave,” the instructor of one of the university’s most popular classes, “The Cultural and Chemical History of Beer.”

Conz, who launched the class in 2010, was an avid home brewer and an active member of the Arizona Society of Homebrewers (ASH), the country’s largest home-brewing club.

An accomplished individual, Conz also was a commercial pilot and a certified driving instructor. Other interests included welding and metalwork, alternative energy production, playing the drums, and vegetarian cooking.

ASH president Rob Fullmer put together the video above for Sunday’s remembrance.
