Wil Wheaton: “Star Trek” alumnus, technology evangelist, Sheldon Cooper nemesis … and craft brewer?

Back in April, the actor was invited by longtime friend Greg Koch to brew a beer. Koch, of course, is the co-owner of Stone Brewing Company. So Wheaton enlisted another beer-loving buddy – Drew Curtis, founder of the satirical news site Fark.com – and Farking Wheaton W00tstout was born.

The trio’s collaboration is a most unusual American imperial stout, brewed with rye, wheat malt and pecans and partially aged in bourbon barrels. It has an ABV of 13% and 65 IBUs. Impressively, it’s earned a near-perfect score of 99 on RateBeer.com.

Tonight, you can taste W00tstout for yourself at the Friday Beer Class at Whole Foods Chandler. Other samples from the San Diego area brewery will include RuinTen IPA, Enjoy By IPA, Espresso Imperial Russian Stout, Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale, 2011 Old Guardian Belgo Barley Wine, and 2013 Oak Smoked Old Guardian.

The informal tasting is $5 and will start around 7:20 p.m.
