The reopening of Pittsburgh Willy’s, the Chandler hot dog shop moving to a new location downtown, now is tentatively scheduled for early summer.

Owner Randy Walters closed his original location about two miles north of downtown Feb. 9, and had hoped to reopen – with a new name, Pittsburgh Willy’s Doghouse – later that month in a former house (pictured above) just west of SanTan Brewing.

But the schedule hasn’t gone as planned.

First, Walters pushed up the opening of his second downtown concept, a nostalgic burger and ice cream parlor called Wimpy’s Paradise, scheduled for this summer, to Feb. 14.

In the meantime, Wimpy’s temporarily has been offering a couple of Pittsburgh Willy’s specialty hot dogs to keep fans happy until the reopening.

Starting today, two more – the Pittsburgher (topped with sauteed chipped ham and cheese) and the classic Chicago Dog (pictured) – are joining the temporary roster at Wimpy’s.
