After a weekend of “friends and family” sessions, Boulders on Southern opens to the public at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the northeast corner of Alma School and Southern in Mesa.
The bicycling- and rock-climbing-themed neighborhood bar and grill offers the same pub grub menu of burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas as its elder Tempe sibling, Boulders on Broadway.
Boulders takes over the 6,700-square-foot space that formerly was home to Irish-themed sports bar R.T. O’Sullivan’s. The extensive renovation includes brand-new booths.
In a nod to its predecessor, Boulders has recycled R.T. O’Sullivan’s door into a large table. Cross-cut tree trunks make a dramatic wall piece.
Unfinished wood and natural stone are the two main elements of the decor. A small tree extends from low wall made of stones.
The bar has 20 beers on tap, as opposed to 30 in Tempe. It eventually plans to do craft beer tastings and promos.
A billiards room provides another option for neighborhood residents to hang out.
A huge south-facing patio is sure to be a popular gathering spot.
