Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema caused quite a stir last December when it announced it was opening its first Arizona location in downtown Chandler later this year.

The new development on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard also is supposed to house The Vig, La Bocca, and Modern Margarita.

Alas, it ain’t happening this year. It was ambitious to think the project could be completed in a year. And since the developer hasn’t even broke ground yet, it’s likely now looking like mid- to late 2016 – at the earliest.

“We did some geotec work on the site and have found a serious issue with the fill dirt,” says Walter Crutchfield of Phoenix-based real estate developer Vintage Partners.

“As a result, we’re behind schedule while working to solve the problem. We’ve slowed everything down on the tenant side because first we have to work towards a solution.”
