Cornish Pasty Co. owner Dean Thomas is opening what he calls a “small pub” on the northeast corner of Mill and Fifth Street in downtown Tempe.

Although Cornish Pasty’s original location is only a half-mile away at Hardy and University, Thomas tells Phoenix alt-weekly New Times:

‘‘I kinda got tired of seeing places go in and out of such a small place and always thought I could make the space work. Because of how small it is I feel like it won’t hurt the original Tempe pasty, but will provide a little hole in the wall on Mill.”

The new place will serve a limited menu of CPC’s award-winning pasties, some grilled cheese sandwiches, and soups.

Besides the Tempe original, CPC has locations in Mesa, Scottsdale, and Las Vegas, and is about to open in downtown Phoenix.

Thomas hopes to launch the Mill location before the end of the year.
