Pita Jungle, the Mediterranean-inspired hangout for the health-conscious, opens its new Tempe location today in the former Firehouse space on the northeast corner of Mill and University today.

It replaces the original Apache Boulevard location opened by ASU graduate students Bassel Osmani, Fouad Khodr, and Nelly Kohsok in 1994.

Pita Jungle has since grown to 17 locations in Arizona – including two in Mesa and ones in Chandler and Gilbert – and a couple in California.

Besides the namesake pitas, its menu offers ‘‘healthy’’ burgers, wood-fired pizzas, salads, and entrees.

The new Tempe location will be open 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
