The Mining Camp Restaurant, an Old West-themed family and tourist destination on the outskirts of Apache Junction for more than 50 years, was destroyed by fire early this morning.

Open since 1961, the rustic wood structure – part restaurant, part historical museum – offered Western dishes like BBQ ribs, baked beans, and sourdough rolls served family-style on tin plates at long communal tables.

Officials arrived on the scene of the fire at 3 a.m. No cause has been announced, but officials say the building was a total loss.

No word yet on whether the owners, who were staying at the motel next door, will rebuild the restaurant.
