Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a Texas-based chain of dine-in movie theaters, announced it will open its newest location in Tempe in May.
The six-screen theater with a full bar is being constructed on the northwest corner of Lakeshore and Baseline, which was home to a six-screen AMC theater in the 1980s and ’90s.
The exact opening day wasn’t in the announcement, but new theater openings almost always occur just before Memorial Day or Christmas when the year’s biggest movies are released.
This year, the much-anticipated ‘‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’’ opens May 25.
Alamo made its Arizona in south Chandler in 2016. The Tempe location will be its 30th nationwide.
