Dec. 19: ‘3rd Tuesday’ dinner at Romeo’s Euro Cafe

RomeosEuroCafe121417Romeo’s Euro Cafe in downtown Gilbert will host its monthly ‘‘3rd Tuesday’’dinner – featuring new food paired with some servers’ favorite wines – at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The three-course dinners feature three new dishes from chef Romeo Taus’ (pictured) creative kitchen crew paired with three wines selected by the knowledgeable waitstaff:

  • Starter: Brown rice, black beans, peppadew peppers, hominy, onions, beets, and snow peas cooked in chicken broth, lightly breaded pan-fried pork cutlets, parsley-cilantro salad, Paired with 2015 Coppo Moncalvina Moscato d’Asti Piedmont, Italy.
  • Main: Smoked pork loin, roasted vegetables, green beans, cauliflower puree, house-pickled cucumbers, fig-pomegranate agrodolce. Paired with 2012 Castell De Raimat Tempranillo
    Costers del Segre, Spain.
  • Finale: Chocolate from Debbie. Paired with 2011 Cellar Pasanau Ceps Nous Priorat, Spain.

Dec. 16: Murder Mystery theater at Nicantoni’s Pizza

NicantonisMurderMystery121117Nicantoni’s Pizza in Gilbert will host ‘‘The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year,’’ a holiday production by the Murder Mystery Company dinner theater, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.

The audience, which will be asked to solve the whodunit, is encouraged to wear festive holiday clothing – the more garish the better!

Tickets for this special evening are $49 per person, which includes the show and a three-course meal:

  • Appetizer: Apple cranberry salad
  • Entree: Carved turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, and green bean salad
  • Dessert: Apple pie a la mode and ambrosia

Drinks and tip are not included.

Romeo’s Euro Cafe in Gilbert holds its weekly ‘‘Taste of Romeo’s’’ dinner, hosted by chef Romeo Taus and his wife, Janice, in a private dinning room, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.

The dinners typically feature five courses selected from the restaurant’s regular menu. This week’s selections:

  • Peppers Spanaki
  • Antipasto Salad
  • Vasco De Gama
  • Transylvania Chicken (pictured)
  • Fantasy Cake

Sunday: 7th annual Wine Festival at My Wine Cellar

MWCWineFest111717My Wine Cellar in Ahwatukee will host its seventh annual Wine Festival from noon-3 p.m. Sunday.

Attendees can enjoy 20 varietals, and festival wines will be available for purchase at a discounted price to take home.

There also will be food specials and live music by The Carrie Lynn Trio.

Tickets are $25 per person ($20 for Wine Club members).

Saturday: Phoenix Pizza Fest at Margaret T. Hance Park

phoenixpizzafest111716Jimmy & Joe’s, Buddyz Chicago Pizza, and La Piazza al Forno are among the participating pizzerias in the third annual Phoenix Pizza Festival, which runs 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Margaret T. Hance Park in Phoenix.

Admission is $10, with children 5 and under allowed in for free. All food and drinks cost extra. Tickets must be purchased in advance here. The festival’s attendance is capped to prevent overcrowding.

Fifteen pizza makers will sell $2-$4 slices (or half or full pizzas, depending on their preference). Local craft beers, wines, soda, lemonade, and water also will be available.

The festival also will feature live bands, lawn games, desserts, a local vendor marketplace, and a kids craft zone.

Saturday: 5th anniversary party at McFate Brewing

McFateTripleOatmeal111717McFate Brewing will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a party from noon-9 p.m. Saturday at its south Scottsdale location.

There will be food and drink specials – including $5 burgers – as well as live music by the Copper States (noon-7 p.m.), hourly giveaways (noon-9 p.m.), and brewery tours (at 1, 3, and 5 p.m.).

McFate also will be releasing its special anniversary beer – Triple Double Oat IPA – on draft and in cans.

  • Broiled beef tenderloin, fennel, onion, red pepper, asparagus, snow peas, quinoa, mashed potatoes, brandy peppercorn cream sauce, mixed pickled peppers. Paired with 2012 Casa Castillo Monastrell Jumilla, Spain.
  • Chocolate espresso pudding. Paired with 2013 Villa Borghetti Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore.

Today: SunUp Harmony Cure tapping at Cornish Pasty

SunUpCaptainqueegee111717SunUp Brewing will tap its newest beer – Harmony Cure, a collaboration with Cornish Pasty Co. and Mesa-based indie band Captain Squeegee – this weekend.

The unfiltered East Coast red IPA will be tapped at 5:30 p.m. today at Cornish Pasty’s Phoenix location. Captain Squeegee will perform a special acoustic set.

On Saturday, Harmony Cure will be on tap at SunUp in Phoenix and Cornish Pasty’s locations in Tempe, Mesa, and Scottsdale.

Today: Beaujolais Nouveau Day at Cuisine & Wine Bistro

beaujolaisnouveau111616Cuisine and Wine Bistro will celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day from 3-10 p.m. today at its Chandler and Gilbert wine bars.

In the Beaujolais region of France, the annual holiday on the third Thursday of November marks the release of the first red wine of the season.

Cuisine & Wine Bistro will be offering this year’s wine at both locations. Cecile Hortensia will perform live French folk music at the Gilbert location starting at 7 p.m.

Nov. 18: Arizona Brewers Ball at Warehouse 215 in Phoenix

AZBrewerBall111417The Arizona Craft Brewers Guild will hold its second annual Arizona Brewers Ball from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Warehouse 215 in downtown Phoenix. The event is open to the public.

Attendees are invited to dress in 1920s-inspired outfits for the Prohibition-themed celebration, which will feature small food bites paired with Arizona craft beers (see menu). The 14-piece Uptown Big Band will perform.

Pre-sale tickets are available for $125 per person. VIP table reservations are $2,000, which include 10 tickets, access to a private area, additional hors d’oeuvres and specialty beers, and prime seating for the event.

Tickets can be purchased here. Proceeds will benefit the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild and the George Hancock Fund.
