Deseo, the upscale Latin American restaurant at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in north Scottsdale, is limiting its wine list to South American wines (such as Achával Ferrer Malbec from Argentina, pictured), starting March 1.
Deseo manager Jim Hansen says the change makes sense for James Beard Award-winning chef Douglas Rodriguez’s “Nuevo Latino” cuisine:
South American winemakers make their wine to pair well with the food they eat.
In 2010, Argentina and Chile ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, as wine suppliers to the U.S. market (behind Italy, France and Australia).
Last year, another Scottsdale restaurant, FnB, switched to an all-Arizona wine list.
