Essence Bakery chef Theodosopoulos sweeps Caramelpalooza awards

Essence Bakery Cafe chef Eugenia Theodosopoulos swept top honors Friday at Caramelpalooza 2011.

Held in the Smeeks candy store parking lot in Phoenix, the second annual event featured 11 of the Valley’s top candymakers.

Theodosopoulos’ caramel macaron won both the blind tasting and people’s choice awards.

Tammie Coe of Tammie Coe Cakes was second in the blind tasting with a candy-coated caramel. Brendan McCaskey was third with a peanut butter and jelly caramel.

McCaskey finished second in the people’s choice vote. Slade Grove of Wicked Bakery/Cookies from Home was third with a ginger caramel.
