Black Chile Mexican Grill, a new chain concept from the founders of Kona Grill, will open its second location this May at Biltmore Fashion Park.
The menu will feature tacos, enchiladas and Americanized entrees like chimichangas, chorizo meatloaf and its namesake black chile.
The first location opened last August in Minneapolis as Rojo Mexican Grill, but owners Michael McDermott and Jason Merritt have changed the planned chain’s name due to trademark issues.
The pair founded Kona Grill in 1998 but have since sold that chain.
McDermott’s father, Marno, is perhaps best-known as the founder of Fuddrucker’s, but also launched three Mexican chains – Zapata’s, Chi-Chi’s and Two Pesos.
