Thirty local teams will compete in the inaugural Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, which kicks off tonight and concludes Saturday at Sam’s Club in Gilbert.
Co-sponsored by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, the tour will include 20 more local competitions. Winners advance to five regional finals, and the championship will be held in Bentonville, Ark., in October.
Admission is free and open to the public, which can sample barbecue and watch these demos by grilling expert Troy Black:
- 7 p.m. tonight: Championship ribs
- 11 a.m. Saturday: Championship ribs
- Noon Saturday: Beef brisket
- 1 p.m. Saturday: Pulled pork
Awards will be presented at 5 p.m. Saturday.
