Bible & beer? Church takes over former McDuffy’s sports bar in Peoria

Here’s something you don’t see every day: Former Peoria sports bar McDuffy’s has been turned into a church – but will be run as a restaurant six days a week.

According to the Republic, three couples leased the vacant space in January to establish the Salt and Light Community Church, where 250 Sunday worshippers use tables and booths instead of pews.

Monday through Saturday, though, the space will become 3rd Place Grill, a full-fledged restaurant that serves typical sports bar food. It even will offer beer and wine, but no hard liquor.

Paul Wilson, one of the founders who spent 18 years as pastor of a West Valley megachurch, says Salt and Light is targeting people “who don’t tend to attend traditional church.”
