Ahwatukee’s Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery taps its latest seasonal ale, a saison called Liquid Sun, at 6:30 p.m. today.
Traditionally, saisons are low-alcohol (around 3.5% ABV) pale ales brewed for summer by farmhands (“les saisonniers”)Â in French-speaking regions of southern Belgium.
But saisons tend to be brewed stronger in the United States, where their popularity has surged. Men’s Health magazine named Saison Dupont the world’s best beer, and a saison-only brewery recently opened in Fort Collins, Colo.
Rock Bottom makes its saison, which has an estimated ABV of 7.0%, with orange blossom honey, ginger, orange peel and coriander.
