Flancer’s hosts annual pizza-eating contest Sunday to aid wounded vets

Approximately 30 people will see how much pizza they can eat in 15 minutes during the 11th annual Flancer’s Pizza-Eating Contest at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Last year’s winner, Thomas Gilbert of Las Vegas, set a record by consuming 18 slices – the equivalent of two-and-a-quarter 18-inch pizzas. He was crowned by Gilbert mayor John Lewis, Flancer’s owner Jeff Flancer and Miss Arizona Savanna Troupe (pictured).

The contest at the Gilbert restaurant is the centerpiece of a month of events, raffles and auctions to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The public is invited to watch the contest for free.
