South Tempe gastropub Spitfire Grill closes after 9-plus months

Spitfire Grill & Tavern, a upscale gastropub that opened in south Tempe in September, has closed its doors after nine-plus months.

Owners Don and Tonya Lococo had offered a mostly made-from-scratch menu of familiar pub grub with a global wine list and 48 kinds of beer.

Spitfire had taken over the building on the northwest corner of McClintock and Warner that formerly held Tale of the Whale and, before that, VooDoo Daddy’s.
