Barrio Café pulls out of plans to open tequileria in Gilbert

It looks like Gilbert isn’t getting a Barrio Café spinoff this fall after all. Chef-owner Silvana Salcido Esparza has canceled those plans.

The reasons? Disagreements with the landlord over the Mexican restaurant’s name – Barrio Tequileria – and design, she tells the Republic.

The landlord reportedly thought the name sounded too much like a bar.

Postino Winecafe is still scheduled to open in the other half of the former GrainBelt building in November.

Esparza is proceeding with plans to open a Barrio spinoff in the former Metro Brasserie space at Scottsdale’s SouthBridge.
