Tempe Oktoberfest – one of the East Valley’s largest free festivals – starts today and runs through Sunday at Tempe Beach Park.
The 39th annual festival features polka, country and rock music, carnival rides, merchandise vendors, fun runs and children’s activities.
Bratwursts with sauerkraut will be available, and a Bavarian bakery will offer strudel and other pastries. Other food options include pizza, burgers, bbq, Asian noodles and Mexican.
German beer tastings, featuring 22 beers, will take place noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; eight 4-ounce samples will be $20.
In addition, beer gardens will be selling domestic, import and craft beers all weekend.
Commemorative 33.5-ounce polished acrylic, Munich-replica beer steins (pictured) will be sold at the German Shoppe tent.
