Manuel’s co-founder Alice Salazar dies after 2-year battle with cancer

Some sad news: Alice Salazar, co-founder of Manuel’s Mexican Restaurants, died Sunday after a two-year battle with cancer, according to her family. She was 79.

Salazar and her husband, Manuel, opened their first Manuel’s in Phoenix in 1964. The restaurant has grown to seven locations, including one in the East Valley at the 101 and Southern in Tempe.

Alice Salazer is survived by four children, 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services for Salazar will be open to the public. The rosary will be held 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School, Phoenix, with the viewing from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Saint Thomas The Apostle Catholic Parish, 2312 E. Campbell Ave., Phoenix.
