Pittsburgh Willy’s introduces – blasphemy! – Chicago-style hot dogs

Pittsburgh Willy's Chandler AZLooks like Pittsburgh Willy’s, the popular Chandler hot dog eatery and the East Valley’s unofficial headquarters of Steelers Nation, is throwing a bone to Bears fans. Or, rather, throwing them an authentic Chicago-style hot dog.

PW owner Randy Walters has been getting requests for the Windy City specialty since opening three years ago, but was hesitant to add one to his menu.

“I was nervous to be honest,” he says. “After all, I am dealing with a food icon here, but the feedback (has) made feel like I am doing it right using all the real-deal ingredients.”

For the uninitiated, a Chicago Dog comes with yellow mustard, chopped white onion, neon-green sweet pickle relish, dill pickle pear, tomato slices or wedges, pickled sport peppers and celery salt.

Walters even is using natural-casing Vienna Beef frankfurters – the preferred brand of Chicago vendors – instead of the Nathan’s he uses for his other specialty dogs.

Pittsburgh Willy’s Chicago Dog is $3.50.
