Lafayette’s coneys, Better Made chips, Faygo Redpops, Vernors ginger ale, and Sander’s fudge.
If you’re from Detroit, you’re undoubtedly familiar with these iconic Motor City foods and drinks. And now you can find them in the East Valley.
Sunshine’s Motor City Cafe, a lunch-only restaurant specializing in the favorite foods of Detroit (coney pictured at left), opened Monday in an industrial park at I-10 and Elliot in Tempe.
The menu (see menu pdf) also includes Motor City medallions, the restaurant’s version of Detroit’s pasties, as well as salads and sandwiches.
There even are Boston Coolers, a milkshake-like treat made with Vernors and vanilla ice cream.
The cafe is the latest venture from Michigan natives Al and Michelle (aka “Sunshine”) Taylor, owners of Special Moments Catering and Tempe lakeside restaurant Pier 54.
Al Taylor says the cafe plans to offer occasional daily specials like pierogies and White Castle burgers.
Sunshine’s Motor City Cafe, 7425 S. Harl Ave., Tempe, is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
