Sonoran Brewing unveils series of chef-collaboration seasonal beers

By Jess Harter Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Scottsdale-based Sonoran Brewing has announced an interesting series of 2012 seasonal beers designed in collaboration with local chefs and featuring local ingredients.

Sonoran Brewing Scottsdale AZThe first, dubbed 7 Wives Saison, will be released March 3. Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn chef Jeremy Pacheco created the beer with Sonoran brewmaster Zach Schroeder using wheat from Pacheco’s family farm near Marana.

7 Wives also will be made with green peppercorns from Singh Farms, fennel from farmer Bob McClendon, mesquite syrup from Cotton Country Jams, and local oranges and coriander.

Pacheco’s inspiration was Lon’s founder and artist Lon Megargee, who was married seven times. The label was designed by another local artist, Ellison Keomaka.

Saisons traditionally are low-alcohol pale ales; many are fruity but semi-dry. The once-rare style has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, although not in Arizona until now.

Other chefs who will be designing beers for the series are Eddie Matney from Eddie’s House, Lee Hillson from T. Cooks at the Royal Palms and James Porter from Petite Mason and Big Earls BBQ.

After the tapping party March 3, look for bomber bottles of 7 Wives at East Valley retail outlets.
