Fast-food restaurants introduce new menu items all the time, but this may be the first time a national chain has rolled out 10 items in one day.
The chain I’m talking about is Burger King, which unveils a bunch of new health-conscious salads, wraps, and drinks today.
(BK, you might remember, was surpassed by Wendy’s as the No. 2 burger chain in 2011, although both trail McDonald’s by a large margin).
The newcomers, along their calorie count:
- Homestyle Chicken Strips (360 for 3-piece)
- Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken (490)
- BLT Salad with Grilled Chicken (510)
- Garden Fresh Apple & Cranberry Salad with Grilled Chicken (520)
- Ranch Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap (370)
- Honey Mustard Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap (390)
- Strawberry Banana Smoothie (310Â for 16-ounce)
- Tropical Mango Smoothie (330Â for 16-ounce)
- Mocha Frappe (510Â for 16-ounce)
- Caramel Frappe (510Â for 16-ounce)
If these items sound familiar, it might be because 9 of the 10 already can be found on McDonald’s menu.
Burger King also plans to spend $750 million this year to update the look of its 7,204 U.S. restaurants.
The changes are meant to address two areas where the chain ranks low in fast-food customer surveys:Â the perception of selling healthy food and in offering an inviting atmosphere.
