Harvey American Public House, a neighborhood-centric bar and grill, opens at 4 p.m. today next to Blue 32 Sports Grill on the northwest corner of Val Vista and Williams Field in Gilbert. The menu features burgers, sandwiches, pastas, ribs, and steaks. The restaurant includes a separate space called Harvey American Sandwich Shop, which won’t open for another week or two.
The rustic interior is very brown. Heavy wood tabletops, banded in iron, sit on wood barrels. The bar is a rough-hewn but heavily polished piece of wood (notice the natural indentations in the photo below). The 15 tap handles offer a few nice craft beers but mostly mainstream selections. The bar also serves an outdoor counter in the spacious and enclosed side patio.
Although this is the owners’ first foray into the restaurant business, their son is one of the owners of Fibber Magees in Chandler and Skeptical Chymist in Scottsdale. Harvey American Public House plans to be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
