Health department closes down Baja Fresh Mexican Grill in Ahwatukee

A not-so-appetizing sight greeted would-be diners today at Baja Fresh Mexican Grill in Ahwatukee: A rare closure sign from Maricopa County health inspectors.

The bright red notice (shown in a photo snapped by Valley food journalist Geri Koeppel) cites “failure to maintain establishment in compliance with the Maricopa County Environmental Health Code.”

According to the county’s website, the restaurant at Ray Road and 43rd Street got a “new owner inspection” today. Confusingly, it notes, “OK permit to operate. Correct the following by re-inspection. (8/7/12)”

It goes on to list six violations to be addressed, ranging from damaged gaskets on cooler doors to damaged hood filters.
