East Valley duo’s Beer Camp creation to be tapped Thursday at Hungry Monk

By Jess Harter Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Last week, we told you about Sierra Nevada‘s ongoing Beer Camp, an opportunity for craft beer fans from around the country to spend a hands-on instructional weekend at the California brewery.

The highlight? Each group that attends the camp collaborates on a unique beer.

Jim Lolli, owner of the Hungry Monk, and James Swann, beer guru at Whole Foods Chandler, went to Beer Camp this summer, and the fruit of their group’s labors will be unveiled Thursday at the former’s Chandler bar.

The beer they created is called ApriQuat, a pale ale (5.4% ABV) brewed with apricots and kumquats. Hungry Monk will tap Arizona’s first keg at 5 p.m. and sell pints for $3.

Two mainstays of the local craft beer scene – HopHead Fred and Rob “Oll Llo” Fullmer – will be guest bartenders for the event.
