Mesa police and firefighters will square off in a pizza-eating contest Saturday at Organ Stop Pizza, which will host an outdoor Safety Fair from 2-5 p.m.
The free, family-friendly event also will feature fire and bicycle safety demonstrations, prize giveaways, and health information. There will be fire trucks and police cars to check out, plus police dogs and treats from Blue Bell Ice Cream.
For the past month, Organ Stop, located on the southwest corner of Stapley and Southern, has been hosting a friendly competition between police and firefighters as part of the pizzeria’s 40th anniversary celebration.
Each group has a pair of special pizzas on the menu – BBQ chicken and Hawaiian Five-O (pepperoni, bacon, pineapple and onion) for the cops, buffalo chicken and 5-Alarm (pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and jalapeños) for the firefighters.
Each time one of the four pizzas is ordered, Organ Stop donates 20% of the price to the 100 Club of Arizona. You still have time to cast your vote: The battle runs through Friday.
The winner will be announced Saturday and added to the regular menu.
