Huge news for Mexican food fans in the East Valley:
Los Reyes de la Torta, the Valley’s acclaimed tortas (Mexican sandwiches) shop, is expanding to Tempe.
The original Seventh Street location has received national acclaim from numerous TV shows and magazines, including the popular show “Man V. Food.”
The eatery, which also has a spinoff in the West Valley, is taking over the former JB’s Restaurant building on Southern, just west of McClintock.
Los Reyes de la Torta has applied for a liquor license for the Tempe site – something its Phoenix locations don’t have.
Besides more than two dozen tortas (most $6-$8), the eatery offers burritos, tacos, burgers, and entrees.
No opening date has been determined, but an employee at the Phoenix location said the Tempe one would open before the end of the year.
