1 step closer to Gilbert’s 1st brewery

Arizona Wilderness Brewing Gilbert AZArizona Wilderness Brewing, Gilbert’s first brewery, signed its lease agreement this week and took over its planned space on the southeast corner of Arizona Avenue and Guadalupe Road.

As you can see above, the space is littered with the remnants of its former tenant, an Asian eatery. (Before that, it was a Godfather’s Pizza.)

As soon as owners Brett Dettler and Jonathan Buford secure construction permits, the demo work will begin.

Buford, the brewmaster, says AZ Wilderness will start with six beers on tap, then increase to 12 and, eventually, 18 handles. He says he’d like to price beers around $3 or $3.50 a pint – well below the Valley average.

Similarly, Dettler says the menu will be inspired by Dakotas burger-and-beer concept JL Beers, which offers 10 different burgers with chips for around $4.

The pair are hoping for a soft opening around Dec. 15 and a grand opening on Jan. 15, although those dates obviously are tentative.
