5th Street Bar opens (at least temporarily) in former Blondie’s space on Mill

5th Street Bar

It didn’t take long for someone to take over the suddenly available Blondie’s Sports Bar space in downtown Tempe. 5th Street Bar already is up and running – at least for now.

The guy behind 5th Street Bar is Julian Wright, whose Mill Avenue portfolio also includes La Bocca, Modern Canteen, and the recently opened Handlebar.

The 5th Street Bar space on the southeast corner of Mill and Fifth is familiar to Wright. It was the home of his first Mill nightlife foray, The Library, in the late ’90s.

5th Street continues Blondie’s sports theme. However, Wright says he will close the venue at the end of the year and re-open as a “new, hot concept.”
