Try Oskar Blues’ Chaka at this week’s Friday Beer Class at Whole Foods Chandler

By Jess Harter Thursday, November 1, 2012

Lyons, Colo., brewery Oskar Blues is the subject of this week’s Friday Beer Class at Whole Foods Chandler. The informal tasting costs $5 and starts at 7 p.m.

The highlight will be the Belgian-style ale Chaka, a collaboration with Indiana’s Sun King. The limited-release, which debuted in May, rarely has been available outside Oskar Blues’ taproom and Sun King’s home market of Indianapolis.

The 8.0% ABV beer is made with ingredients from each brewery’s state: Shagbark Hickory syrup from Trafalgar, Ind.; grain from Colorado Malting Company; and a special yeast blend from the Brewing Science Institute in Colorado.

Chaka has the distinction of being the first beer canned in screw-top aluminum “bottles.” (It’s since been joined by a second Oskar Blues/Sun King collaboration, The Deuce Hopped Up Brown Ale.)

Besides Chaka, there will be several other Oskar Blues beers, including Ten Fidy, Gubna, and Deviant Dales, also on tap Friday. Brewery rep Marcus DeGroff will be handing out swag.
