Sweet Tomatoes Field Kitchen, a new concept from the San Diego-based all-you-can-eat buffet chain, has made its national debut in Tempe. Field Kitchen offers an expanded gourmet menu, flexible pricing and a more upscale decor.
Parent corporation Garden Fresh, which has 129 restaurants (known as Souplantation in California but Sweet Tomatoes in 14 other states), chose its six Arizona locations to test the new concept.
The former Sweet Tomatoes on Southern, just west of McClintock, is the first to be unveiled. The other five, including East Valley locations in Gilbert and Ahwatukee, will join it by the end of the year.
Besides Sweet Tomatoes’ signature salad bar, Field Kitchen’s menu includes a gourmet salad station (made to order and delivered to table), a carving station of roasted meats, and a grilling station featuring steak and chicken skewers. It also will offer wine and beer.
Instead of Sweet Tomatoes’ fixed pricing ($8.29 at lunch, $10.29 at dinner), Field Kitchen offers diners the choice of paying for items individually or creating their own bundle. A trip to the salad bar, a premium soup, house-made bread, and frozen yogurt is $6.99 at lunch and $7.99 at dinner.
The new decor features china, new glassware and silverware, and a “garden wall” of fresh herbs.
