2 restaurants coming soon to Gilbert: SoCal Fish Taco Company & Biscuits

Add a couple more names to the growing list of restaurants coming soon to Gilbert.

SoCal Fish Taco Company, an offshoot of the Seafood Market & Restaurant at Mesa’s Dana Park, is moving into a former real estate office on the east side of Gilbert Road south of Page Avenue (across the street and a little south of Liberty Market and The Farmhouse, near Romeo’s Euro Cafe).

SoCal Fish Taco Company Gilbert AZPablo Reynoso Jr. (pictured) says his laid-back taco shop will have a Southern California coastal vibe. He plans to offer eight different types of fresh fish tacos – such as salmon, ahi, and swordfish – every day, as well as Corona-battered fish and chips, buckets of clams, and oysters on the half shell.

“Everybody does fish tacos, but nobody does good fish tacos,” he says, pointing out his family has been operating the successful Seafood Market since 1991. (It moved to Dana Park in 2006.)

SoCal Fish Taco Company, which will offer a full bar, will be 1,100 square feet with a 1,100-square-foot patio in the back. Reynoso hopes to open around Feb. 1.

The other newcomer is Biscuits, a spinoff of a two-year-old Ahwatukee breakfast-and-lunch spot that was named Best Restaurant in last year’s Best of Ahwatukee awards.

The menu features down-home favorites like biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, and chicken fried steak for breakfast, and meatloaf, liver and onions, and fish and chips for lunch.

The mom-and-pop-style restaurant is expected to open between Baseline and Guadalupe roads (next to the car wash in the Sam’s Club parking lot) just after the first of the year.
