Just because you’re staying in the Valley for Christmas doesn’t mean you can’t take a quick trip to Europe – a trip of the culinary variety, that is – thanks to Chandler restaurant Cork.
The last Sunday of every month, Cork does a special four-course, prix-fixe dinner menu with a regional or subject theme. This month, it’s moving up the dinner to Sunday, Dec. 23, to offer a “Taste of a European Christmas.”
Diners will start their holiday adventure in Poland with a bowl of zupa grzybowa (pictured), a traditional Christmas Eve mushroom soup, then swing by Italy for insalata arance, an orange salad with Cipollini onions and fennel.
For a main course, diners get a choice of three destinations: Denmark (roasted goose with apple-prune stuffing and boiled potatoes), the United Kingdom (pheasant breast and confit pheasant leg with roasted Brussels sprouts and parsnip puree), or Sweden (mustard-crusted Christmas ham with sweet and sour kale and Jansson’s temptation potato gratin).
For dessert, France bids adieu with Bûche de Noël (pictured), a Grand Marnier spongecake rolled with chocolate buttercream. You can add a cup of house-brewed wassail (hot mulled cider) for $4 (non-alcoholic) or $6 (with brandy).
The dinner is $35 per person, not counting tax and tip. There’s also an optional $12 starter course – a half-dozen oysters on the half shell with mignonette sauce – and optional wine pairings (three glasses for $15).
The menu will be offered 5-9 p.m. For reservations, call 480-883-3773.
