It’s Friday, which means fish fries across the East Valley.
• Starting Saturday, Chompies in Tempe and Chandler is offering Chanukah meals – beef brisket, roasted chicken or apricot-glazed chicken, with extras like matzo ball soup, potato latkes (pictured above), and string beans almondine – for $15.95 per person through Dec. 16. You also can get a to-go feast for 12-15 people for $169.95 (24-hour notice required), or buy dishes (see menu) by the pound, pint or piece.
• Bend, Ore., brewery Deschutes is the subject of tonight’s Friday Beer Class at Whole Foods Chandler. The beers will include Abyss stout and Chasin’ Freshies fresh-hopped IPA. Class starts at 7 p.m. and costs $5.
• From 5-8 p.m. today, Santa Claus will visit The Spot in Gilbert. The festivities will include free cookies, holiday music, happy hour specials like $1 Bloody Mary’s and mimosas, and 10% off food.
• There’ll be an Epic tap takeover Saturday at Fox Cigar Bar. The Salt Lake City brewery’s beers will include Hopulent Nitro IPA, Smoked & Oaked, Brainless on Cherries, 825 State Stout, Brown Rice Ale, Double Skull doppelback, Cross Fever Amber, and Smoked Porter.
• Just in case the Mayans were right, Dragon Wok is hosting an End of the World Party Saturday. The Gilbert Chinese restaurant will offer seatings at 3:30, 5:30 & 7:30 p.m., each featuring fine Chinese dining, music and entertainment. Chinese Lion Dancers, a cultural tradition that often marks special occasions, will be the highlight of each party. Guests can order from the regular menu or request the special $20 prix fixe menu. Reservations required.
• An account has been set up for a Barrio Queen staffer and her two young children who were struck head-on by a drunk driver this week. The children remain in critical condition. You can donate here.
