• The Cards have lost nine straight games. The Suns have lost seven straight. At least we still have Burger Monday!
• Micheal Iles, chef at the Sierra Nevada Taproom & Restaurant in Chico, Calif., is in town for a couple of events. At 6 p.m. today, he’ll be pairing three desserts (Narwhal brownies, bread pudding and a malt) with three beers (Barrel Aged Ovila Quad, Narwhal and Porter) at Papago Brewing in Scottsdale. Get all three pairings for $12 total. Tomorrow, Iles prepares a beer dinner at Whole Foods Chandler.
• The Hungry Monk has announced an enticing event for this Thursday. No theme, but beers on tap will include Firestone Walker 16th Anniversary Ale (pictured), Ballast Point Victory at Sea (2011 & 2012 versions), and North Coast Grand Cru. There’ll also be a special food menu.
• Longhorn Steakhouse is opening its first East Valley location (not counting the Chandler one that closed a couple years ago) tomorrow at Fiesta Mall in Mesa.
• Babbo Italian Eatery, which opened its first East Valley location in Tempe in May, is preparing to open its second at Signal Butte and Southern in east Mesa.
• It’s “Chef Day Off” at DownUnder Wines tonight, when Romeo Taus (Romeo’s Euro Cafe) and John Wong (sN Asian Kitchen) will join Jared Lupin in the kitchen. Wines from Napa’s Luna Vineyards will be featured.
