OHSO hosts Beer People Helping Beer People fundraiser on Sunday

One of the most uncomfortable – and, thankfully, rare – things reporters have to write about is themselves. But this is one of those occasions.

Some of you may know I spent a week in the hospital just before Christmas. I had an irregular heartbeat, and while it wasn’t life-threatening I ended up spending several days in intensive care before getting the simple procedure to fix the problem permanently.

I was much luckier than my friend Dave Argabright, who also was in Gilbert Mercy while I was there. Dave, a former East Valley Tribune colleague and a regular at local craft beer events, went in for an appendicitis in November, developed complications, and ended up spending a couple weeks in the hospital.

Some friends of Dave and his wife, Robyn, have put together a fundraiser involving, not surprisingly, craft beer to help defray both of our medical bills. OHSO Brewery in east Phoenix graciously agreed to host the event, called Beer People Helping Beer People.

From 1-4 p.m. Sunday, OHSO is generously donating the proceeds from three kegs – Oskar Blues Nitro Ten Fidy, Deschutes The Abyss, and Green Flash/Cigar City Candela Rye Barleywine. All you need to do to help out is show up and have one of those beers.

As a bonus, if all three kegs are drained, OHSO promises to tap another special keg and sell those pours for just a penny. There also will be a silent auction.
