Spurs Saloon is latest restaurant to take a chance on ill-fated Garcia’s building in Chandler

Chandler AZSpurs Saloon is the latest restaurant to take over the former Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant building on Alma School Road between Elliot and Warner roads in Chandler. In the past three years, the 8,000-square-foot location also has housed Kiley’s Grill and Mama’s Place.

“We’re trying to bring Chandler a place for food, fun and family,” says partner Nick Vale. “Our goal is to make it more family-oriented.”

Chris “B.C.” Sprewer, formerly of Ra Sushi, heads the kitchen, which offers a budget-friendly menu of burgers, sandwiches, and entrees.

Specialty burgers include a Blazing Saddles Burger with pulled pork, bacon, and chipotle BBQ sauce ($9) and a Sonoran Burger with queso, jalapenos, and green chile ($9). Both include a side.

Sandwiches include a Pulled Pork Sand Man topped with cole slaw and onion straws ($9) and The Dip, shaved ribeye with sauteed red onions, mushrooms, and Swiss ($10).

There are five kinds of tacos ($8 with three tortillas, chips, and salsa). The most expensive item on the menu is an 8-ounce sirloin steak with two sides and jalapeno corn bread for $13).

Chandler AZLater in the evening, Spurs morphs into a country-western bar with live bands playing on a new stage in the front room Thursdays through Saturdays. Theme nights include bikers nights (Thursdays), poker nights, and karaoke nights.

Although last weekend was its grand opening, Spurs Saloon still is a work in progress. For example, Vale says he plans to construct a stagecoach-like shade over a large bar on the front patio.

Spurs Saloon opens at noon weekdays and 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and the kitchen serves food until midnight. Happy hour, which runs 3-7 p.m. daily, includes 50% off appetizers and 34-ounce beers for $3.50.
