Portillo’s set to open 1st AZ location Feb. 26 in Scottsdale, another this summer in Tempe

Just over a year ago, I told you Portillo’s was headed to Arizona. Now the first of the Chicago-style restaurants finally is ready to open.

The chain’s first Arizona location will open at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the 101 and Shea in Scottsdale. The first East Valley location will be at Tempe Marketplace and open in late summer.

Portillo’s was scouting the Chandler Fashion Center last year, but a company official says that location is no longer in the works. Only the two locations will open in Arizona this year.

Portillo’s offers Windy City favorites like Chicago-style hot dogs, Polish sausages, and Italian beef sandwiches. One of its signature menu items is chocolate cake rumored to be made with mayonnaise.

The chain has 36 restaurants. Except for a pair in California, all are in the Chicago area.
