After heaping helping of negative reaction from diners, Sweet Tomatoes kills Field Kitchen concept

By Jess Harter Friday, February 15, 2013

Sweet Tomatoes has reversed course and reportedly is killing Field Kitchen.

The San Diego-based, all-you-can-eat buffet chain launched its Field Kitchen concept in November, converting its Sweet Tomatoes restaurant near Southern and McClintock in Tempe.

Field Kitchen offered an expanded gourmet menu, flexible pricing and a more upscale decor. But customer reaction was overwhelmingly negative (including comments by MXSW readers here).

Sweet Tomatoes announced this week it is killing the Field Kitchen concept, according to the Republic. The Tempe restaurant will be remodeled back into a Sweet Tomatoes and reopen in April.
